Strike Up a Winner - League Rules
The league will consist of 12 managers. Each manager should be knowledgeable and serious about hockey and this particular fantasy pool. Hopefully we will not have to worry about this, but if it is determined that a manager has given up and failed to stay active with his teams, he/she will be removed from the league and will be replaced.
1. FEES:
Entry fee will be $40 CAD. This must be paid on or before the draft day with no exceptions. Failure to comply will result in your team being auctioned off.

2. STATS:
Stats counted:
Skaters – G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, SOG, FW, GWG, Hits, BS
Goalies – W, L, SO, GAA, Save%, SV
3. RULE CHANGES:
Every year owners will be able to submit proposals for rule adjustments. Votes will determine if any changes be made.
a. To enforce a rule change, half the owners + 1 owners must vote in approval. The owners that are counted for this can include the owner who requested the change initially.
4. ROSTERS:
Each manager will have a pro team and a farm team.
a. Each pro team will consist of a 24 man roster which includes goaltenders.
b. A maximum of four goaltenders is allowed per PRO team and a minimum of two goaltenders is also required. No other position has limits.
c. Each farm team will consist of 5 players of any position.
5. STARTING ROSTERS:
*Rosters will be set Weekly, not Daily
Starting Line-up:
C - 3
RW - 3
LW - 3
D - 5
Utility - 1
G - 2
Bench - 7
IR - 2
6. FARM TEAMS:
Each farm team may consist of any number of players and any number of positions, as long as it is at or under the maximum of 5 players.
a. Each player may be called up to your pro team at any time during the regular season or the offseason. However, once a player is called up from to your pro team he cannot be returned to your farm team.
b. 100 NHL regular season games is the max for a farm skates, and 50 games started in the regular season for goalies. At 100/50 games played/started he must be added to your pro team or dropped to waivers.
i. The only way to add farm players to your farm team is through drafting and trading.
7. KEEPERS:
At the end of the season, 5 days after the end of the season, you will be able to keep 12 players from your pro roster, plus your farm team.
- Early keepers make each years draft a lot more fun, with all the player movement in the offseason
8. DRAFT:
* Year one draft will be a "slow draft" held on the league website (Proboards). The draft will consist of 29 rounds, with a 3 hour pick timer during the day, which will be shut off at night (11pm ET to 6pm ET)
Year 2 and beyond:
a. Each years draft after the initial draft will be held online. The draft will be held on one night, not as a slow draft, unless the league is stronly against this.
b. The draft will consist of 12 Pro rounds, then 5 farm rounds. A pro player (in the first 12 rounds) must have played at least one game in the NHL (regular season), while a farm player (rounds 13-17) can't have played more than 100 NHL games. After the 17 round draft all teams will have one week to cut their Rosters down to 24 pro players, and 5 farm players.
c. * Overrules above rule* After the draft you are allowed to keep your roster above the maximum number of players until September 15th. On this day you must submit your final pro and farm rosters or they will be chosen for you.
d. Draft positions will be based on the rankings BEFORE the playoffs for the bottom 6 teams, and AFTER playoffs for the top 6 teams. An example of how the draft picks would work is shown below with the team’s finish rank in red and the draft round in blue.
e. Players drafted in the pro draft, cannot be added to your farm team after the draft.
Year 1 draft order (3rd round flip) - 123, 321, 321, 123, 321, 123...
Year 2 draft and beyond - NHL style - 123, 123, 123...
e. Year one’s draft will consist of 29 rounds, with farm player being eligible to be picked at any time during the draft.
iii. If you fail to turn in your final rosters by September 15th, your rosters will be chosen for you and any excess players will be dropped.
9. PLAYOFFS:
The scoring system used will be Yahoo’s head to head system. Scoring categories are defined above. If you are unfamiliar with Yahoo’s head to head scoring system, either email me or check the Yahoo page.
a. The top 6 teams will make the playoffs, with the top 2 teams receiving byes, which will consist of the last four weeks of the regular season of the NHL.
10. TRADING:
a. Managers can trade draft picks for the next year into the future only.
b. There will be a trade deadline six weeks before the end of the NHL schedule. (The last 4 weeks will be playoffs, so after this deadline, you will have 2 weeks left of the regular season to set your roster for the playoffs.)
c. Trading privileges will be opened back up after the NHL playoffs are completed.
d. League trade voting is one day only, not two.
e. The commissioner has the right to overturn any trade which has been made and is clearly collusion, eg Malkin for Ben Eager, to keep the integrity of the league.
11. WAIVERS:
a. In addition, each team will be allowed no more than 50 waiver movements each year. If one manager drops a player and picks up another from the waiver wire or free agent pool, that will be counted as one waiver movement. If a manager drops one player, but doesn’t add another, that will also be counted as one waiver movement.
b. Waivers is one day only, not two.
12. PAYOUTS:
Payouts (based on 12 teams and $40 entry fees) will be as follows:

a. 1st place (playoffs) will receive $200
b. 2nd place (playoffs) will receive $100
c. 3rd place (playoffs) will receive $40
d. The team who finishes first overall at the end of the regular season will receive $100
e. The manager who owns the player who wins the Calder trophy (rookie of the year) will receive $40
13. KHL:
Any player that leaves the NHL to go play in the KHL, and is on your team, will be allowed to be placed on your farm roster. This player will take up one of your 5 spots, and will not be alloted his own, 6th, spot. The player can be kept on the farm team as long as the manager desires.
14. OWNER MISTAKES:
a. If an owner makes a mistake by adding or dropping the wrong player, or accepting a trade by accident, the owner has five minutes to notify the commish via email or to post on yahoo. If the owner did not notice right away, the commish will use his judgement and only top end players will be reversed if the drop/trade was an obvious mistake.
b. If a player adds a farm player that is not theirs and drops a player, the commish will drop the farm player from that team, BUT NOT add the dropped player back to the team. The exception to this is if the farm teams list on the yahoo homepage is not up to date and that farm player was not listed.
